Henkel, through its Loctite brand, provides a range of threadlockers, thread sealers, gasketing compounds and cleaners for a variety of applications.
Of special interest to visitors to STAND 50 is Loctite 55 sealing cord. This unique product is used for sealing threaded fittings, and replaces traditional methods such as PTFE tape, pastes and solvent drying compounds.
The thin cord is wound around the male threads of the fitting and then cut using the sharp in-built edge of the cord’s container. The fittings can then be assembled - no mess and no waste. If the fittings don't line up or, for example, an outside tap needs twisting to align it correctly, the joint can be readily backed off without fear of leakage.
Loctite 55 has been granted CORGI Certification approval - the first threadsealing product to achieve this status. It also carries EN751-2 Class ARp for the gas industry, and WRC approval for use with potable water to 85°C.
Typically, Loctite 55 is employed on coarse threads used for central heating water systems and gas pipe fittings. It is suitable for cast iron, steel, brass, copper, chrome, nickel-plated and galvanised surfaces, stainless steel and plastic.
